Abdulfazl Mukumov

Abdulfazl Mukumov was born and raised in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, where he spent most of his life before moving to Buffalo, New York, in 2022. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Financial Analysis and a minor in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the University at Buffalo.
Throughout his academic journey, Abdulfazl has been honored with several distinctions, including being named an Educational Opportunity Program Distinguished Scholar and receiving the Grace W. Capen Award and the Challen Family Endowment Fund Scholarship, which recognize academic excellence and leadership within the School of Management.
Outside of academics, Abdulfazl has actively pursued entrepreneurial ventures. He founded Al Burhaan Tours LLC, a travel agency that provides customized travel experiences. Managing this business has given him hands-on experience in small business management, customer relations, and the tourism sector, while also contributing to the local economy.
During his WNY Prosperity Fellowship year, and leveraging its networking opportunities, Abdulfazl co-founded the Global Shapers Hub in Buffalo, part of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers Community. The Buffalo Hub focuses on economic development, climate action, and social equity, providing young leaders an opportunity to create meaningful community-driven initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable growth and inclusion in Western New York.
Building on the skills, network, and mentorship gained through the Fellowship, Abdulfazl launched a second business, WNY Renovation & Repair LLC, specializing in home renovation and remodeling. Since its founding, the company has steadily grown, reaching around $10,000 in monthly revenue. This venture not only addresses the strong market demand for quality home improvement services but also supports local economic development by creating jobs and offering reliable, community-focused service.
Looking ahead, Abdulfazl is passionate about building a career in venture capital. He aspires to support innovative startups, drive economic growth, and promote investment in traditionally underserved communities. His long-term goal is to help reduce the negative effects of residential segregation by encouraging greater economic and social investment in historically marginalized neighborhoods.
Abdulfazl’s commitment to social responsibility extends beyond his businesses. He has volunteered with UNICEF and participated in a United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Case Study in Costa Rica, where he worked alongside local communities to learn about sustainable agricultural practices and the challenges posed by global economic systems. These experiences have deepened his understanding of global development issues and reinforced his belief in using business as a tool for social good.
Through every endeavor, Abdulfazl remains driven by a desire to combine entrepreneurship, community impact, and strategic investment to build stronger, more inclusive economies both locally and globally.
