Bryan Carvajal
Bryan Carvajal’s path to healthcare is marked by a deep commitment to public service and a profound understanding of the social determinants affecting patient outcomes. As a child of Colombian immigrants, his journey has been shaped by the challenges he faced and overcame in the vibrant community of Queens, New York. His experiences have fostered a formidable determination to make impactful contributions to healthcare, especially for under-resourced, often-overlooked communities.
Carvajal earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Biology at Hunter College. Driven to serve as a clinician, he completed his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Upstate Medical University in 2022, where he conducted a master’s thesis on novel pharmacological targets for managing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
His role as a PA at the Neighborhood Health Center at Mattina in Buffalo, NY, has endowed him with a profound understanding of the healthcare barriers confronting the increasingly diverse communities of Buffalo. These collective experiences inspired him to further his clinical education and increase his impact by pursuing a medical degree. He is currently a medical student in the Class of 2027 at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Looking to the future, Carvajal is determined to establish a pediatric ophthalmology practice in Buffalo’s West Side, striving to improve the visual health of Western New Yorkers. In addition to his regional impact, he aims to contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge through ongoing research into the biological underpinnings of glaucoma.
