Dennis Fedorishin
Dennis Fedorishin is a computer science PhD candidate at the University at Buffalo whose research is centered on advancing the way computers understand sights and sounds using artificial intelligence (AI). He has authored over six papers on various AI research areas in the Center for Unified Biometrics and Sensors (CUBS). His research prowess is reflected in several prestigious awards, including the Goldwater Scholarship, SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence, Honorable Mention of NSF’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program, and Finalist in Meta’s PhD Research Fellowship.
Dennis is also heavily involved in Buffalo’s industry. For over 3 years, ACV Auctions’ research lab has directly funded his PhD to create AI systems to automatically diagnose vehicles through sound. His work, both patented and published, resulted in a world’s-first AI system that serves thousands of vehicles each day across the country.
Dennis is committed to inspiring fellow students and the local community to pursue higher education through his experiences. He has previously volunteered within the UB STEM Youth Mentor Program, where he taught and planned curricula to encourage young students to pursue careers in STEM. Now, he often serves as a guest speaker and judge for AI classes and hackathons within the university, providing new students with mentorship and opportunities to collaborate with him on research projects.
Dennis aspires to use his PhD to continue researching new areas of AI, while creating a world-class AI research company, encapsulating it to help create growth and prosperity in the Western New York region.
