Elnaz Amini

Elnaz Amini was born and raised in Herat, Afghanistan. In 2016, she and her family immigrated to the United States for a better future. Since then, she has proudly called Western New York her home.
As a first-generation college student, Elnaz navigated the complexities of higher education on her own a journey that shaped her resilience, independence, and unwavering commitment to personal and academic growth. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Sociology from the University at Buffalo (UB), where she was recognized as an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Distinguished Scholar throughout all four years of her undergraduate studies. During this time, she immersed herself in opportunities to support and uplift her peers, serving as a First-Generation Peer Mentor, an Academic Coach, and a Student Engagement Ambassador. These roles ignited her passion for higher education and affirmed her commitment to community impact. In recognition of her leadership and service, Elnaz was honored in 2024 with the Pillars of Leadership’s prestigious Dorothy M. Haas Community Engagement Award, a testament to her efforts to lead with purpose and positively influence those around her.
She is pursuing a master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration at UB. Elnaz serves as the Graduate Assistant for Leadership and Development in the Office of Student Engagement, where she has the privilege of empowering emerging student leaders with the tools, confidence, and skills they need to create meaningful change. In addition, she holds the role of Graduate Student Assistant for the Western New York Sophomore Externship Experience Program, an initiative focused on workforce development and talent retention in the Western New York region.
Elnaz’s journey from Afghanistan to Western New York has been one of profound growth, gratitude, and purpose. She is deeply committed to serving the region through her work in higher education, leadership development, and workforce development. With resilience and dedication as her foundation, she strives to contribute meaningfully to the economic vitality and social well-being of Western New York. She sees her role not only as a practitioner but also as a bridge connecting students to opportunities and communities to the next generation of changemakers. The region gave her a new beginning, and she is determined to give back through service, innovation, and leadership.
