Katie Gawronski

Katie Gawronski is originally from Norwich, NY, and pursued a degree in Physical Education/Health Education at Canisius University. During her undergraduate time, she had the opportunity to contribute to the Canisius University Cross Country/Track and Field team, by securing a school record in a 4x800m indoor relay and setting an individual school record in the outdoor 400m hurdles.

Throughout her academic journey at Canisius University, Katie was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society. Additionally, she served as the Physical Education Department representative during each Accepted Students Day and Educational Preview Day annually. Katie’s passion within her field was recognized throughout the 2023-2024 academic year. In December of 2023, she was honored with the NYS AHPERD Major of the Year award, recognizing her contributions to Physical Education within New York State. Furthermore, in April of 2024, Katie received the SHAPE America Major of the Year award, which recognizes physical educators on a national scale.

Beyond the confines of the university, Katie has extended her enthusiasm for athletics and education by co-coaching with her mother for the Norwich Family YMCA Bolts Youth Track and Field program. She also served as an assistant coach for the Clarence Central School District lacrosse program during their 2023 Fall pre-season. Katie’s community involvement includes her participation in volunteer track clinics for children throughout the Buffalo area, held by her track and field team as well as during events such as Women in Sports Day held by Canisius University. Through her teaching observation hours and student teaching experiences, she has had the opportunity to work with numerous students in and around the Buffalo area.

Looking forward, Katie is motivated by a vision to establish a comprehensive youth track and field program within and around the Western New York area, catering to ages K-18. Her overarching goal is to create opportunities for physical activity, inclusivity, competition, enjoyment, and a safe environment, enriching the lives of children in the WNY community.
