Max Nowak

Max is an aspiring community health advocate and future registered dietitian committed to enhancing food security and sustainable nutrition practices in Western New York. As he pursues a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition at the University at Buffalo, he aims to obtain the RDN credential to advance his capacity to address nutritional deficiencies, chronic diseases, and health disparities within the region. His academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Science in Health and Wellness with a minor in Psychology from Canisius University, complemented by two years of practical experience as a Dietary Office Associate at Sisters of Charity Hospital. These experiences have enriched his understanding of medical nutrition therapy, patient care, and effective healthcare communication, reinforcing his dedication to community-based health initiatives.
Max’s research interests center on supporting agricultural innovation and sustainable food production as a means to improve local food accessibility. He envisions leveraging hydroponic systems to provide nutrient-dense produce year-round, thereby reducing nutrient deficiencies and fostering healthier lifestyles among underserved populations in Western New York. He also seeks opportunities for research in sports nutrition, utilizing food as both fuel and medicine for an individual’s optimal physical activity and recovery, to apply a more holistic approach in supporting the health and productivity of people across the region.
His future plans involve utilizing his education to develop innovative nutritional programs that integrate sustainable agriculture techniques, contributing to regional economic growth by supporting local food systems and farmers. Max is passionate about collaborating across sectors, including public health, agriculture technology, and community organizations, to establish projects that enhance food security and public health outcomes. He aims to serve as a leader in the intersection of nutrition and sustainable food production, advocating for policies and practices that promote health equity.
Through the Prosperity Fellowship Program, Max seeks to expand his professional network, deepen his understanding of regional industry collaborations, and refine his leadership skills. His long-term vision is to drive transformative change in Western New York by bridging health sciences and sustainable food systems, creating healthier communities and a more resilient regional economy.
