Oumou Diakite

Oumou was born in Cortland, New York of Malian descent. She is a Canisius alumna with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in conjunction with two minors consisting of neuropsychology and sociology. Oumou is currently in her second to last semester in the mental health counseling program at Canisius University and expects to graduate in Fall 2025.

During her time at Canisius, she has had several leadership roles including being a Resident Assistant from 2021-2023, Hall Director from 2023-2025, Vice President of the first chapter of Active Minds 2023, and lastly Advocacy Coordinator for Psi Chi Gamma. As a Canisius alumna Oumou received the blue and gold scholarship as a graduate student and as an undergraduate student she received the Magis scholarship for her high school achievements.

Oumou has had off-campus obligations which she worked at a homeless shelter for the youth. Moreover, she has expanded her knowledge by working at a leasing office to get more experience in a different field. Oumou is on track to complete her hours and take her licensure test to become a mental health counselor. In addition to this, gaining more knowledge and insight into counseling and establishing a career in Buffalo.

In the future, she hopes to own a private counseling practice to aid her community for the better.
